The Shrinking Ray is the trademark weapon of Brainiac. He uses it on his conquest of the universe to shrink down major cities and collect them in bottles. One such city was Kandor, capital of Krypton. Superman confiscated Kandor and one of Brainiac's rays. He utilizes it on himself to visit Kandor from time to time.
