While on a field trip to a nuclear power plant, teenager Jason Rusch and footbal coach Ronnie Raymond were caught in a battle between Batman� and Dr. Double X. Double X's master, Dr. X, was planning to use the power of an experimental reactor to increase Double X's powers, but during the fight, the reactor exploded, merging student and teacher into a single entity, with Jason as the body, and Ronnie as the mind. Together with Batman, the two learned how to control their newfound powers, and together, they form Firestorm, a superhero who proves two heads are better than one.
